University College Chemistry Alumni Association (UCCAA)
The University College Chemistry Alumni Association or UCCAA is a grouping of Students and Teachers - both Past and Present - of the Department of Chemistry,
University College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The association aims in upholding and conveying the dignity, tradition and goodwill of the Department of
Chemistry and that of University College in general, among other non-members when its members interact with them by virtue of their profession, association etc.
residing in India or abroad.
The first meeting of the executive committee of the University College Chemistry Alumni Association ( UCCAA ) was held on 14/06/08 immediately after the first
meeting of the general body of the Chemistry Alumni Association. An ad-hoc committee was framed with the following members.

The meeting decided to constitute a bye-law committee consisting of Adv. C. Deverajan (Convener) Adv. B. Rajarman Nair, Dr. A. Salahudin Kunju and
Dr.V. Sadasivan as members. The ad - hoc committee authorized the bye-law committee to prepare a draft and present it to the committee within one month. The
University College Chemistry Alumni Association (UCCAA) officially came into existence in Feb. 2009 (Reg. No. T. 246/09).
Any person who was a Student of the Department of Chemistry with Chemistry as the main subject in the University College for under graduate or post graduate
studies and any teacher, present or former in the Department of Chemistry, University College, Thiruvananthapuarm is eligible and are welcomed to be a member of
the association.

Activities of UCCAA
UCCAA arranged talks on various topics by alumni of the Department mainly focused on PG students. Dr.M. Bhattathiri ( Vice-president , UCCAA ),
Dr. A Salahuddin Kunju (Vice-President, UCCAA) and Dr. Hareesh delivered talks.
The Alumni Sri. Padmanabhan Thampi (Late), Prof.( Dr. )M R Gopalakrishnan, and Sri. Kiran Kumar C (B.Sc. 2002-05) has donated books from their personal
collection to the Department.
Department of Chemistry, University College had started the IYC 2011 celebration with its inaugural function on 14th November, 2011. UCCAA has actively
involved in IYC 2011 celebrations. Dr.(Mrs.) Radha R. Das, Assoc. Director(Rtd.) AMD/Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, alumnus of the dept. delivered a talk 'Chemistry
in Atomic Mineral Exploration Programme' on the same day. UCCAA largely associated with the Department in organizing a Chemistry Exhibition 'Chemscape2011'.
In connection with this Mr. V.S. Vishnu an alumnus of the Department made a poster presentation.
On this special occasion, University College Chemistry Alumni Association (UCCAA) award a cash prize (Rs-5000/- sponsored by M.Sc. students 1989-91
batch) to the best outgoing postgraduate girl student to commemorate the gem lady Nobel Laureate, Marie Sklodovska Curie.
